Residents in the serene neighbourhoods of the Oyibi community have been gripped by fear as reports of incessant robbery attacks have caused them to go into hiding.

Over 15 homes in the community have been robbed in the past two weeks, thus threatening the peace and tranquillity in the area. The armed men are reported to attack their victims during late hours, between 1:00 am to 2:00 am.

A CCTV footage obtained by TV3 show armed men forcefully entering homes of their unsuspecting victims and leaving with valuable items.

“On Thursday [January 11, 2024] dawn at exactly 2;24 am, armed robbers came to this house. When they came, one person climbed the wall and jumped into the building and opened for the others, they’re about four people” a resident told TV3’s Emmanuel Samaniwho visited the community on Sunday, January 14.

Residents say the alarming incidences have caused them to feel unsafe in their once safe havens.

“The recent happening in the area, about fortnight ago, has made all residents here very insecure in terms of security wise.”

“I was in my room around 1:30 am on Thursday when I heard some scratches on my door so I thought it was my cat and later I saw it on my window, but my wife said this noise is very loud it’s not a cat,” two residents recalled.

Despite a community engagement by the Police command in the area to curb the robbery attacks, the attacks still persist forcing locals to consider relocating from the community.

Security experts have urged the Ghana Police Service to be on alert and intensify measures ahead of the elections in December to prevent such incidences.
