Some farmers in Adeiso-Danso in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region cry over the activities of herdsmen in the area.

Speaking to one farmer on condition of anonymity on Plan B FM late afternoon show EBAANOSEN hosted by Ohene Kinnah, the farmer narrated that herdsmen in the Eastern region have invaded Danso with large herds of cattle, destroying farm crops and water bodies in the area.

He said farmlands in several communities, have been destroyed  due to the situation, many of the youth in the area thought farming was time-wasting, and as a result, some had started indulging in criminal activities to make ends meet.

“We are in the village but we have to go to nearby towns to buy foodstuff like cassava, plantain, etc to feed our families why should it be so”?

“Worst of it all is that the herders persistently attack them to leave the farms for their cattle and our women, because of the attack on their lives, have refused to go to their farms and life is becoming difficult for them,” he said.

He noted that even though they are law-abiding citizens if nothing was done by the law enforcement agencies, they might have no other option than to take over the security of their farms.
