Farmer Remanded For Allegedly Impregnating Daughter

Kofi Oppong, a 38 year old farmer, has appeared before the Asamankese circuit court for impregnating his mentally deranged daughter, at Newtown, a suburb of Akwatia.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge of incest when he was arraigned.

The court presided over by Abass Abubakari Adams deferred accused person’s hearing to May 24, 2021.

Prosecution led by chief Inspector Susan Ayaric narrated to the court that the victim was staying with her auntie. The unnamed victim’s mother according to prosecution, currently lives in the Volta region with her relations.

Chief Inspector Ayaric said the complainant who is an auntie to victim went and brought victim who is mentally deranged to Akwatia about four years ago and was staying with her at Hausa Zongo a suburb of Akwatia.

The Prosecutor told the court that, on April 14, 2021, the victim left her aunty’s house to her father’s house at Newtown also a suburb of Akwatia and did not return. Prosecution continued that did not return as expected; a situation that got the auntie worried.

Chief Inspector, Ayaric continued that on April 25, 2021 the victim came to the auntie and complained of stomach pain. She is said to have pulled out an antenatal card from a bag and showed it to the auntie with the explanation that she is pregnant and disclosed that her father Oppong is responsible for her pregnancy.

Prosecution told the court how the victim narrated to police how her biological father has been having sex with her over a period of time resulting in her becoming pregnant.

According to the prosecution statement, complainant on hearing this, lodged a complaint with the police. A police medical report form was issued to complainant to send the victim to hospital for treatment and determination of the duration of the pregnancy.

Chief Inspector Ayaric told the court that Oppong was arrested and in his caution statement he admitted the offences and explained that it was out of loneliness. He is reported to have told the police during interrogation that a woman he took after he divorced his wife, has travelled hence the decision to start having sex with the victim who is his biological daughter. The police medical form is yet to be received by the police to aid further investigation into the matter.
