Asante Kotoko booked their place in the round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup with a 2-0 win over lower-tier side Acceler8z FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Despite the victory, the Porcupine Warriors had to work hard to secure the result against a spirited opponent.

Coach Prosper Ogum made several changes to his starting lineup, giving opportunities to fringe players eager to impress.

However, Kwame Poku took a moment of precision to break the deadlock just before halftime.

Poku converted from the penalty spot after Saaka Dauda was fouled inside the box, giving Kotoko a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

The visitors showed resilience in the second half, forcing Kotoko to dig deep to maintain their advantage. Substitute Ansu Henry sealed the win late in the game with a clinical finish, relieving the fans.

The victory keeps Kotoko’s hopes alive of lifting the FA Cup for the first time since their 2017 triumph. As nine-time champions, the Porcupine Warriors are eyeing a return to glory and will be hoping for a favourable draw in the next round as they continue their quest for silverware this season.
