Alcohol is a powerful chemical that can have a wide range of adverse effects on almost every part of the body, including the brain, bones, and heart according to Rev Dr. Ebo Abeka Daniels.
He was speaking on Plan B FM’s family, relationship, and lifestyle show dubbed ‘Nyansapo Fie’ hosted by Dr. Michael Asenso on the topic “Alcoholism”
He said alcohol and its associated risks can have both short-term and long-term effects.
“Risky sexual behaviors, including unprotected sex or sex with multiple partners resulting in STIs and miscarriage, and stillbirth or fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) among pregnant women” he indicated.
He added that, alcoholism affect ones sense of reasoning leading to the loss of high profile friends and reputation, and people making mockery of persons engaged in alcoholism.
Rev. Roger Carl Parkins also a guest on the show said excessive alcohol use can lead to the development of chronic diseases and other serious problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, digestive problems, cancer of the breast, mouth, throat, esophagus, voice box, liver, colon, and rectum.
“Alcoholism can weaken the immune system, learning and memory problems, including dementia and poor school performance and mental health problems, including depression and anxiety” he opined.
He stressed that alcoholism can cause social problems, including family problems, job-related problems, and unemployment.
