Everyone Steals in Different Ways — Lady Elizabeth Kesiwaa Nortey Explains Workplace Theft

Lady Elizabeth Kesiwaa Nortey has offered a broader perspective on the issue of stealing, describing it as a behaviour that cuts across all levels of society.

Speaking on Nyansapo Fie on Plan B 104.5 FM, Lady Nortey explained that stealing can simply be understood as taking something that does not belong to you, often with the intention of preventing the rightful owner from noticing or reclaiming it. She added that, in some cases, people may deliberately take another person’s property to cause harm or emotional pain.

According to her, some individuals engage in stealing because they believe they possess a certain level of authority or power, which makes them feel they can act without consequences.

Lady Nortey further noted that stealing is not limited to any particular group. She stressed that both the rich and the poor, as well as people with authority and those without it, can be involved in such behaviour in one way or another.

Touching on the workplace, she explained that theft can occur in two main forms: internal and external. Internal theft, she said, involves individuals within an organisation and can often be detected through systems and monitoring mechanisms put in place by the company. However, she pointed out that external theft, which involves individuals from outside the organisation, can sometimes be more difficult to track, as systems may not always be effective in identifying it.

She emphasised the importance of awareness, accountability, and strong institutional systems in addressing theft both within and outside the workplace.
