England National Women’s Football Team midfielder Lucia Kendall says scoring in front of her home fans in a win over Ghana was a “really special moment“.

She said this after scoring in the Three Lionesses’ 2-0 win over Ghana’s Black Queens in an international friendly game played at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Southampton.

Aston Villa player Kendall, who played for Southampton previously, capitalized on a defensive mix up to put England ahead in the sixth minute. Ghana put up a resolute fight defensively to keep the score same until a converted penalty kick from Alessia Russo in the 95th minute put the game to bed.

“The emotions took over to be honest. It was a really special moment for me to be able to do it here where I grew up.”

“This place made me what I am so to be able to give that back-it felt like it was written today” Lucia Kendall said to the Three Lionesses media.

Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan was in brilliant form as she made very good saves with Ghana getting lucky at times as England struck the woodwork multiple times and created very good scoring chances.
