National Petroleum Tankers Union have called on government to heed to their demands to avoid eminent shortage of fuel in the country.
Members of the Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union declared an indefinite sit-down strike on Tuesday May 21, 2024 demanding improved conditions of service.
According to the drivers, an agreed-upon policy framework aimed at enhancing their salaries and other working conditions has been on the table of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) board since November 2023.
Despite several efforts to get it approved, the aggrieved drivers say the NPA board has refused to vote on it for it to be implemented.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s ‘Ebaanosen’ with Ohene Kinnah, National Chairman, Ghana National Petroleum Tankers Union, George Nyaunu said no official from govt has reached out to them concerning their 2-day sit-down strike.
He added that, if urgent steps are not taken to stem their continuous strike, the country will experience fuel shortage in the next 48 hours.
“We’ve not heard anything from the authorities regarding our strike action, we were expecting to see some urgent action from govt but it looks like our plea have fallen on deaf ears. We will continue to strike until our demands are met” he stated
