Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the lead convener of FixTheCountry, who is being detained following a treason charge slapped on him, has called out Abronye DC for false claims against his person.
Writing from detention, the embattled leader of the pressure group said Abronye DC, (officially Kwame Baffoe), the Bono Region Chairman and a communicator for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in a statement to the police claimed that he – Barker-Vormawor – was once a presidential staffer in the office of former President John Mahama.
“I note also that the said Abrorye DC has on several occasions claimed in the past that I was being paid 20,000 Ghanaian cedis a month as an advisor to John Mahama. All of which is false and can easily be demonstrated to be so.
“I have ignored all these allegations for the same reason one does not interrogate why a fly is drawn to excrement. A person who lives in the gutters craves companionship, and I have little appetite for the gutter politics the 4th Republic has normalized,” Barker-Vormawor said in the statement.
Abronye DC made the allegations in a statement to the police following a charge of the publication of false news slapped on him last week.
The NPP communicator had alleged that former President John Mahama had a sinister plan to stage a coup with the help of a popular terrorist group.
Mr Barker-Vormawor explained that he was only on secondment to the Office of the President under John Mahama in April 2013 as liaison officer for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was never a presidential staffer.
In the statement, Mr Barker-Vormawor urged the Foreign Affairs Ministry to set the records straight on the allegation.
