Education Minister assures UDS of support for Yendi campus and medical school

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting the development of the University for Development Studies (UDS), particularly its Yendi Campus, medical school and teaching hospital.

The assurance was given when the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Prof. Mohammed Muniru Iddrisu, paid a courtesy call on the Minister following his appointment.

Mr. Iddrisu acknowledged the significant role UDS continues to play in expanding access to higher education, especially for students in northern Ghana. He said the Government remains committed to strengthening the institution and supporting its growth.

The Education Minister also stressed that President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has no intention of micro-managing public

universities, noting that the Government respects the governance structures of higher education institutions, including their councils and management.

He assured the Vice-Chancellor that the Government would continue to work collaboratively with universities to advance higher education across the country.

Mr. Iddrisu further encouraged the University to clearly outline its priority needs and provide the necessary justification to enable the Government to determine where support can be effectively provided.
