Educate Africa Institute has sided with the speaker of parliament Alban Bagbin over calls  to use local languages in parliament and has urged authorities to extend it to the classrooms for easy communication.

Speaking to the Director of Educate Africa Institute Mr. William Boadi on Plan B FM late afternoon show, EBAANOSEN hosted by Ohene Kinnah, Mr. Boadi explained that it is good to learn English but it is also better to always make our mother tongue portray our culture and identity.

“Our mother tongue is our culture and our culture is our value and identity”

He said we must allow Ghanaian children to learn our local languages in our various homes to enlighten them to know their culture and the background they are coming from.

“We go to school to acquire knowledge, skills and it is unwise to go to school to learn English so we need to embrace our local language”

Using our local languages to teach in schools will help to encourage easy understanding and cooperation among students and teachers and improve learning and it is a step in the right direction Ghana Education Service and Ministry of Education can implement it urgently.
