ECG urges public to stay away from power infrastructure during heavy rains

ECG urges public to stay away from power infrastructure during heavy rains

The Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for the Tema Region, Ohemaa Sakyibea, has advised the public to stay away from electricity poles, overhead cables and other power infrastructure during the ongoing rainy season to avoid electrocution.
Speaking on Nkosuo Nsem on Plan B FM with host Abusuapanyin Mireku, Ms. Sakyibea cautioned residents against attempting to enter ECG installations or tamper with electricity meters and other company property during periods of heavy rainfall.
She explained that the recent heavy rains have resulted in frequent power outages, stressing that the interruptions are precautionary measures aimed at protecting lives and preventing damage to electrical infrastructure.
According to her, ECG prioritises public safety over uninterrupted electricity supply whenever severe weather poses a threat to the power network.
“When it rains heavily, lives come before power,” she said, noting that temporary power shutdowns are necessary to prevent injuries, electrocution and possible fatalities.
Ms. Sakyibea appealed to the public to remain patient and cooperate with ECG during such periods, emphasizing that the outages are not deliberate but are implemented in the interest of public safety.
