A transformer belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Bunso in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region has been stolen.

The transformer, a 100 kVA one, is valued at GH¢71,000.

Details emerging indicate that the transformer was allegedly stolen by unknown persons last week at the Bunso Police barrier next to the police station.

The transformer was stationed on the land of the CSIR-Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute and was just a stone’s throw away from the Bunso Police Station and Fire Service command.

It remains unclear who is behind the theft. The situation has led to power cuts in the community and other areas connected to the transformer.

Management of the ECG in the area has disclosed efforts are underway to replace the transformer.
