In a bid to stem the company’s electricity distribution losses, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), yesterday, September 14, 2021, launched its Revenue Protection Task Force.
Launching the task force, the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempreh pointed out that the establishment of the taskforce will take care of ‘low-hanging fruits’ such as power theft whilst work is progressively being done on the other commercial aspects of the company’s business.
According to the minister the task force will also monitor meter auditing, availability of quality meters for the replacement of faulty meters reduction of customer indebtedness, among others.
Explaining further, the Minister explained that the decision to establish the taskforce is to make the company financially healthy and added that for the first time under President Akufo-Addo led government all of ECG’s debts have been cleared with some extra support being a sum of GHC 100 million given to the energy provision institution to replace obsolete equipment and the introduction of various systems.
Dr Opoku Prempeh urged both the Board and the Management of ECG to give their full support to the Revenue Protection Taskforce so as to enable them achieve their mandate without fail.
He encouraged the Task Force to do the right thing to make it a better place, and urged the public to cooperate with the task force during the delivery of its mandate.
“I believe that collectively, with a single purpose of mind and will, we can be part of a success story for the ECG” he concluded.
