ECG launch smart prepaid electricity meters in Asamankese

After successful launch and implementation of Smart Prepaid Electricity Meters in Six Districts in the Eastern Region, the Electricity Company of Ghana is set for the installation in seventh District (West Akim Municipality).

According to the General Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in charge of the Eastern Region, Sariel Adobea Etwire, Smart Prepaid Electricity Meters are smoothly working at Koforidua, Nkawkaw, Suhum, Kibi, Tafo and Oda.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to launch Asamankese Smart Prepaid Electricity Meter, she said plans are underway to move to Mpraeso, Asesewa, Kade, Akwatia and other places soon as part of the Lost Reduction Project by the Company.

Dr. Berlinda Yeboah Dwamena, General Manager for Lost Reduction at the Electricity Company of Ghana Headquarters charged staff at the District Office to ensure smooth implementation of the project and urged workers improve upon Customer service by educating them on the need to use prepare meters.

Under the project, the company plans to replace postpaid, non-smart prepaid and faulty meters in the region with MMS-compliant smart prepaid meters over the next five months.

The company said the meter replacement exercise formed part of the its loss reduction programme (LRP), an initiative to facilitate the installation of smart meters to improve energy accounting.

Mr. Richard Twum Asare, District Manager of the Company said the Project will begin with Customers who consume more monthly before it will be extended to others.

He expressed gratitude to the Company’s Top Management Team for accepting the request from Asamankese Office for the introduction of Prepaid Electricity Meters, adding,it will Reduce Administrative cost in printing bills and Lost Reduction.
