For allowing a special voter who had already voted during the special voting to vote again today, Monday, December 7, 2020, a Presiding Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC) at Klottey Korle has been sacked by Ghana’s official body responsible for all public elections.
The Presiding Officer, Mr Nehemiah Amu Antwi was said to have been presiding over electoral process at the polling station, Standards Education Centre at Asylum Down when he allegedly allowed a security officer who had already voted during the special voting on Monday, December 1, 2020 to vote again.
The EC took steps to sack Mr Amu Antwi after the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) filed a complaint with the District Election Officer during today’s polls.
One Mr Bernard Hagan who is mentioned as technical officer with the EC who is said to have been asked to take over the duties of the sacked officer, noted that Mr Amu Antwi allowed a voter on the absentee list to vote again. Mr Hagan told the media that the Presiding Officer as it stands now has been sacked because the NDC complained that he allowed a security personnel to engage in multiple voting in the area.
The NDC Greater Accra Regional Chairman commenting on the issue, remarked “There’s evidence that this guy, is a security operative voted in the special voting”. He added that the security man known as Ebo Francis is a former assemblyman who voted during the special voting and wondered why he was allowed to vote again today when he should not have been allowed. Mr Coker expressed surprised when his party found out that the EC did not have complaints forms at the polling centre. He said his party would make sure that the said Presiding Officer is arrested and prosecuted for the crime he committed. The security personnel is reported to have fled the scene to avoid arrest.
