of the 67th Independence Day National Celebration slated for March 6, 2023.

Mr. Lord Commey, the Director of Operations at the Office of the President, revealed that the President’s decision aligns with a commitment to rotate this significant event among regions, fostering national cohesion.

Mr. Commey, leading members of the National Planning Committee, visited the Eastern Region on Thursday, January 18, 2024, to formally inform the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs about the upcoming celebration.

The Koforidua Youth Resource Center has been selected as the venue for the national parade, and the Committee conducted an on-site assessment to provide necessary recommendations.

During a subsequent meeting at the Regional Coordinating Council, several sub-planning committees were established with specific roles to ensure the success of this historic celebration.

Lord Commey encouraged the region to leverage the event for self-promotion on both national and global scales.

He called upon the private sector to actively participate in sponsorship and partnership, emphasizing the opportunity to become a part of history.

Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong announced that the official launch of the celebration would take place on February 1, 2024.

He expressed the region’s readiness to host its inaugural Independence Day celebration, marking the first time it has been bestowed with this honor.

This celebration holds added significance as it will be the last Independence Day for President Akufo Addo, who concludes his two-term presidency on January 7, 2025.

Jefferson Sackey, Deputy Director of Communication at the Presidency and Chairman of the Communication Committee for the Independence Day celebration, conveyed the committee’s anticipation for a truly spectacular event.

Meanwhile a date will be announced for celebration at the Municipal and District levels before the national event.
