Plan B Fm in a quest to expand the Education and also mark the National Neonatal Jaundice Month Hosted two resource Health Personnel on Apomudenfie hosted by Akua Konadu Okontie to educate Ghanaians on the mostly Baby Disease Jaundice.
Dr Obuobi Asare Medical Doctor Tema General Hospital and Doctor Maame Pokua okyere Medical Doctor Tema General highlighted some of the causes, symptoms and possible treatments for Neonatal Jaundice and also stated that Jaundice cannot be declared when your baby’s eye becomes yellow. It requires a medical diagnosis.
They described jaundice as a liver condition that causes yellowing of a newborn baby’s skin and white eyes.
They added that Neonatal jaundice is common in preterm babies, The cause is often an immature liver. Infection, medication or blood disorders may cause more serious cases.
They listed some of the symptoms as yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes after few days of baby birth.
They also said that Treatment depends on severity, In most cases, treatment isn’t required. Light therapy (phototherapy) can help resolve moderate or severe cases. They said
They concluded by making a clarion call on mother’s to stop exposing their babies to early morning sun as treatment for Neonatal Jaundice.
