E/R: Four FM radio stations go off air due to power outage

ECG Shuts Down Somanya Office Over Safety Concerns
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In accordance with information obtained by MyGhanaMedia.com, four (4) FM radio Stations in Akyem Oda, Eastern Region, have been shut down.

According to the report, this comes after a power outage in Akwatia and its surrounding areas.

Residents of Akwatia Township and the surrounding areas in the Eastern Region have been without power for an extended period due to a fault, as announced by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).

GRDICo reports that there was a fire incident at the Akwatia substation on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 2:00–20:00 hrs.

This resulted in the curtailment of power supply to Akwatia Township, Oda, Kade, Asamankese, and adjoining towns.

According to GRIDCo’s statement, engineers are working quickly to resolve the fault and restore the power supply as quickly as possible.

As a result, some radio stations have made the painful decision to temporarily go off air.

This action is critical to ensuring the safety of their equipment and maintaining the quality of broadcasts.

Also the administrators of some radio stations are dissatisfied with the high cost of fuel, which may have allowed them to utilise their planet for temporary operations until the electricity supply is restored.

Our checks on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 9 p.m. discovered that 4 radio stations in Akyem Oda, including Ahenkan FM, Ofie FM, Community Radio and Strong FM, were off the air.

Only two stations in the deputy Eastern Region capital, Akyemansa and Biyac FM, remain operational since their electricity lines were unaffected by the power damage.

Some stations have also decided not to broadcast 24 hours a day, as practically all radio stations do.
