E-Levy: PAC Chair Raises Red Flags Over Internal Auditing Mechanisms

Court Cashier Declared Wanted By Public Accounts Committee For Embezzlement

Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament James Klutse Averdzi has asked the government to explain how banks will conduct internal audits after the E levy implementation.

The lawmaker who doubles as the Deputy Minority Leader stated that the implementation of the levy will stifle businesses since the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has not amended its laws that will allow auditing through the e-levy transaction.

According to him, the PAC has started referring procurement breaches and misappropriation to the attorney general for prosecution.

He said “now, the economy is going digital we need to identify the reflags. Internal Audit competence is more important to me. Internal audit competence is for enhancing organizational values.

“If the internal audit unit is competent, it increases and enhances the value of the organization because you are going to achieve the goal and objectives of that organization,” he said while speaking at the 2022 annual national internal audit and governance conference in Accra on Thursday, May 5.
