A Family Physician and the Specialist-in-Charge of the Tema Polyclinic, Dr Lenusia Ahlijah, has urged women especially Ghanaian women to ensure that they take the habit of breast examination serious as it is one of the surest ways to know when breast cancer is being formed.
Speaking on a Plan-B FM health show, a Tema based radio station, as part of breast cancer awareness month, Dr Ahlijah noted that whether by self-examination or getting a medical expert to carry out an extensive breast cancer screening, it is important for women to do period breast cancer screening..
Answering a question on what women could do to prevent breast cancer, she answered that one of the surest ways of preventing breast cancer is through what she termed as early detection and added that once it is detected, its early treatment could start to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the breast.
“What we as health expert encourage, is that any woman who detects any abnormally or lump in any of her breast, she should quickly seek medical examination to know what the problem is. At this stage she will be helped medically if it is found out that breast cancer is being formed,” Dr Ahlijah remarked.
According to her, it is very important to develop the habit of self-examination every month as that will alert them any time there is a lump being developed in any of the breast and quickly pointed out that a health facility is where they should seek further examination from.
Answering questions from some callers who called into the programme to know more about breast cancer, she pointed out that it is equally important for women to know that not all lumps in the breast of women are cancerous.
Dr Lenusia Ahlijah was in the studio of Plan B FM as part of breast cancer awareness month, which is usually observed during the month of October every year.
The aim of the interview with her, was to further raise awareness of breast cancer and the impact it could have on the lives of victims. It also to encourage women within the Tema metropolis and its environs to examine their breast regularly so as to avoid the possibility of becoming a victims of the disease which has killed several women globally.
