Dr. Kwame Nkrumah remains Ghana’s best President – Social Commentator

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah remains Ghana’s best President – Social Commentator

A renowned social commentator, Michael Teye, has stated that as Ghana marks 69 years of independence, one head of state who stands out among all others is Kwame Nkrumah.

According to him, Dr. Nkrumah remains the best leader Ghana has had, considering the progressive initiatives he introduced and the long-term vision he had for the country.

“Kwame Nkrumah is the best out of all the heads of state we have had, considering the few years he governed before he was overthrown,” he said.

Mr. Teye cited major projects such as the Accra–Tema Motorway, the development of Tema as an industrial hub, the airport, as well as several schools and hospitals as examples of Nkrumah’s legacy. He noted that many of these facilities are still serving their purpose more than 60 years after the death of Dr. Nkrumah.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Ebanosen programme, he added that aside from Nkrumah, he would also acknowledge and celebrate former President John Agyekum Kufuor for introducing notable initiatives such as free maternal healthcare, the school feeding programme, the National Health Insurance Scheme, and the construction of major roads.

Mr. Teye explained that he did not include former President Jerry John Rawlings on his list, arguing that considering the 19 years he was in power, he could have achieved more.

Comparatively, he noted that the current President John Dramani Mahama could eventually earn his admiration if he is able to translate his promises and speeches into tangible results.
