Double Sale Of Land: Court Remands Building Contractor

Court Grant Bail To First Accused Person In Alleged ‘Fake’ Mpohor Kidnapping

The Circuit Court ‘9’, presided over by His Honour Samuel Bright Acquah, has remanded a member of the Okpelor Sowah Din Family, Daniel Ablorh Mensah, into police custody.

The 48-year-old, who is a building contractor, was put before the court on the charge of defrauding by false pretence, but he pleaded not guilty.

Daniel was arraigned before the court on Monday, August 9, 2022.

He is said to have collected  an amount of GH¢80,000.00, together with a water tanker Daf truck, Nissan Urvan, and a Nissan Hard Body pick-up from a businessman, Angelo Roland Adukure, in exchange for land.

However, the promise was not fulfilled, since the land Daniel sold to Roland had multiple owners.

Roland, who is a resident at East Legon in Accra, was introduced to Daniel by Joseph Amarquaye, a witness in the case, when the former was in search of land to buy.

As a result, in January 2019, Daniel offered two and a half plots of land at Nmai-Dzorn to Roland to buy, and took cash in an amount of GH¢80,000.00, together with a Daf water tanker, Nissan Urvan and Hard Body pick up.

In the brief facts presented to the court, the complainant, before making payment, made enquiries and got to know that the land was registered in the name of the accused person’s family.

Unfortunately, other developers put in claims on the land, which Daniel admitted that it was an uncle of his who had sold the land to the other developers without his knowledge.

Ironically, Roland was also chased off another plot of land that Daniel allocated to him as a replacement.

Roland report the matter to the police upon realising the accused had no genuine land to offer him. The accused person was arrested and a statement was obtained from him.

He was, subsequently, granted police enquiry bail to report periodically to assist investigations, but jumped bail.

A Forfeiture of Recognisance Bond was served on the surety who brought the accused to the police. After investigations, the accused person was charged with the offence and brought before court.

The court has adjourned the hearing to August 18.
