Doctor Raises Alarm: ”Temperature Rise May Trigger Childhood Cancer”
Dr. Lily Tiorkor Laryea, Senior Paediatrician at the Tema Urban Hospital, warns that persistent temperature spikes in children may be a sign of childhood cancer, stressing the importance of early hospital check-ups.
On Plan B FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie programme with host Nana Asabea, she advised parents to seek medical attention if their child appears lean despite regular feeding or exhibits unusual swellings.
“Leukaemia, a cancer affecting blood and bone marrow, can cause abnormal white blood cell production, leading to infections, anaemia, and bleeding issues,” Dr. Laeyea explained.
“Early detection is crucial, especially with 1,200 annual cases of childhood cancer recorded. Let’s prioritise our children’s health:
– Schedule regular check-ups to monitor your child’s health.
– Monitor for unusual symptoms and keep an eye out for signs of illness or unusual changes.
– Seek medical attention if concerns arise; don’t hesitate to seek medical help.
“Early detection can make a difference. Let’s take action to protect our children’s health,” she emphasised.
