Do More To Fight Corruption – Social Commentator to Government

Do More To Fight Corruption – Social Commentator to Government
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Social and Political Commentator, Nichiren Appiah Buadi, wants the government to do more in the fight against corruption.

His comments follow a recent post-election survey released by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana)

The survey revealed that the majority of Ghanaians lack confidence in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fight corruption.

“While Ghanaians are split (48% vs. 48%) on the government’s ability to ensure that rule of law is upheld in the next four years, majority [of them] are not confident in its ability to protect the country’s financial resources (53%) and curb corruption and official impunity (62%),” the report noted.

Speaking on Plan B FM ‘Ebaanosen’ with Bohyeba Afriyie, he said although the government is taking steps to stop corruption, it must put in more effort to root out the canker.

“We have gone through numerous workshops and seminars on what public sector and political corruption is. Why are we not, therefore, addressing it, or why can’t we address it? The answer is simple; poverty of leadership and the lack of political will. Until laws are imposed and enforced to deter corruption, it will continue to severely undermine our development and national security.”

Mr. Appiah also said, though the country’s prospects look bright, more should be done to curb graft.
