Discrimination is the unfair or prejudicial treatment of people and groups based on characteristics such as race, gender, age, or sexual orientation and friends.
Speaking on Plan B Fm’s family, relationship, and lifestyle show dubbed NYANSAPO FIE, hosted by Dr. Michael Asenso, on the topic ” DISCRIMINATION IN FRIENDSHIP”.
Osomafour Imma Macarious said friendship discrimination happens when a person has gained a higher rank status in life or society but fears that his or her friends may undermine them because they were playmates years back, or a group of people, is treated less favorably than another person or group because of their background or certain personal characteristics.
It means discriminating against someone because of a ‘perceived’ protected characteristic.
He stressed that, thinking someone is a certain age or status/titles acquired and discriminating against them because of it when they’re not that age or the level.
Madam Mary Bright a relationship counselor also explained that sometimes friendship discrimination could lead to tribal victimization based on past experiences or parents’ advice to their children when someone treats you badly or subjects you to inhumane treatment because he or she is not from your tribe, the other party can complain about discrimination or help someone who has been the victim of discrimination in that regards.
She stressed that, When friends and tribes are discriminated against, they may often feel helpless and anxiety-ridden, and may display a lack of interest in the friendship and in whatever between different tribes.
