Rev. Michael Yaoo Banson, Resident Pastor of Rehoboth Holyfire Revival Ministries International, has emphasised the need for dignity and respect in handling the bodies of fallen heroes who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. The crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, Ghana, while the helicopter was en route from Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Rev. Banson questioned the practice of transporting the bodies in cocoa sacks instead of body bags, citing the traumatic impact on bereaved families and the nation. He stressed the importance of treating individuals with respect, particularly in situations of grief and loss. Leaders, he emphasised, should demonstrate integrity, compassion, and accountability.
Furthermore, Rev. Banson criticised the current state of funerals in Ghana, stating that they have become more like parties, with expensive brochures and food varieties that are often not local or Ghanaian. He questioned how people can manage grief amidst such extravagance and called for a change. Rev. Banson’s comments spark a crucial conversation about values, respect, and dignity in Ghanaian society. Prioritising dignity in death can promote a culture of respect and empathy, ensuring fallen heroes’ sacrifices are honoured and their families treated with dignity.
