Deputy NADMO Coordinator and NDC communicator for the Kpone Katamanso constituency, Francis Kwesi Badu Mello, has defended the government’s introduction of the 1 cedi energy levy, describing it as a strategic measure to address the crippling debt in the energy sector left by the former NPP administration.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkosuo Nsem, Mello emphasized that the levy, approved by Parliament, is dedicated solely to resolving energy sector financial challenges and is not a general tax. He said the NDC government, under President Mahama, is taking bold steps to fix what he described as “a broken system.”
Citing John 10:10, Mello contrasted the two administrations: “The NPP, according to John 10:10, came to kill and destroy, but we are here to serve the good people of Ghana.” He added that President Mahama has instructed his appointees to focus on action, not complaints. “President Mahama told his team — we’re not going to lament; we’re going to fix and reset Ghana,” he stated.
Mello also praised the public for not rejecting the levy, calling their response a sign of patriotism and confidence in the new administration. He concluded that nearly every sector under the NPP was burdened with debt, and the NDC is working tirelessly to restore financial stability, efficiency, and national progress.
