Democracy hub protesters freed as Attorney-General halts prosecution

Democracy hub protesters freed as Attorney-General halts prosecution
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Attorney-General has officially dropped charges against the Democracy Hub protesters, who were arrested during a demonstration against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

The protesters, numbering about 53, including convenor Oliver Barker-Vormawor and activist Ama Governor, were detained after taking to the streets to demand stronger government action against environmental destruction.

The demonstrations aimed to raise awareness about the devastating effects of galamsey on farmlands, water bodies, and forests. Activists have increasingly highlighted the urgent need to address unregulated mining practices, which continue to harm the environment.

With the Attorney-General’s decision to discontinue the case, all charges against the protesters have been effectively dismissed, signaling a win for environmental advocacy efforts.
