Cut The Needless Expenses And Stop The Exorbitant Taxes – Prof. Agyeman-Dua Tells Gov’t

Cut The Needless Expenses And Stop The Exorbitant Taxes – Prof. Agyeman-Dua Tells Gov’t

The founder of JA Kuffour Foundation, Professor  Baffour Agyemang-Dua has slammed the Akufo Addo Government for inflicting hardship on Ghanaians through draconian taxes.

speaking in an interview with TV3 monitored by Plan B News, Professor Agyeman-Dua  opined that, taxes have never developed any nation on earth. Instead, reasonable taxation does.

“I am not against taxation but the unreasonable imposition of taxes can kill businesses. So instead of imposing unreasonable taxes on the citizens, let the Government consider tax holidays for beginners to thrive”, he stated.

He also asked the Government to reduce the excessive expenditure.

“So I always say instead of imposing more taxes, cut the needless expenses. Why should a poor nation like Ghana has its president flying in luxurious aircraft when we already have a Presidential Jet which is air worthy? If we stop the needless expenditure, we will get enough funds to finance most of the projects without having to tax massively”, he told Dzifa Bampoe in an interview.

He suggested the much talked about E levy be reduced to 1% if it cannot be scraped altogether.

“I think 1.7% is on the higher side. Even the service providers themselves are charging 1%. How do you tax more than the service providers? I believe 0.75% or at most 1% will do if it cannot be be removed”, the co-founder of Center for Democratic Development (CDD Ghana), concluded.
