Current West African leaders are the most reckless in history – Kwesi Pratt

During a panel discussion on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana program on August 2, 2023, veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr expressed strong criticism towards the leaders of West African countries, condemning recent political events in the sub-region.

He labeled these leaders as clueless and reckless, accusing them of being solely interested in personal gains, which he believes has led to an increase in coups in the area.

In his scathing assessment, Kwesi Pratt Jnrdescribed the current crop of West African leaders as the most reckless in the world’s history. He believes that their lack of commitment to democratic development and their focus on consolidating power will only exacerbate the crisis in the region.

Furthermore, he argued that these leaders have no right to condemn coup plotters or take action against them because many of them have also engaged in undemocratic actions themselves. As an example, he mentioned Alassane Ouattara, the President of Cote d’Ivoire, who amended his country’s constitution to secure a third term in office. Pratt pointed out that other West African presidents congratulated Ouattara on this move, showing their double standards and lack of legitimacy.

In conclusion, Kwesi Pratt Jnr emphasized that the current situation in West Africa calls for urgent attention and that the reckless actions of the leaders are contributing to the instability in the region.
