Corruption Is A Human Institution, It Cannot Be Eradicated – NPP’s Kwasi Kwarteng

Corruption Is A Human Institution, It Cannot Be Eradicated – NPP’s Kwasi Kwarteng
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Kwasi Kwarteng, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team says corruption cannot be eradicated because it is part of human kind.

His comments come on the back of a report by the Transparency International (TI), which indicated that Ghana is the second most corrupt country in Africa, followed by Nigeria, with South Africa perceived as the most corrupt nation on the continent.

The Corruption Perception Index (CPI) by the TI stated that about 71 per cent of people living in Ghana said corruption had increased over the last 12 months.

But speaking on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ with Ohene Addo, Kwasi Kwarteng said corruption has permeated every fibre of the Ghanaian society to the extent that it cannot be completely eradicated.

“Corruption has been with us since Adam, as former President Kufuor said. It is a human institution; no government can fight it entirely even if we measure their commitment to the fight against corruption. If President Akuffo Addo says he has eradicated corruption since he came to office, I will disagree with him completely. It’s impossible for any government to end corruption,” he stated.

He further stated that, his party’s contributions to fighting corruption is unmatched compared to that of the previous government under the NDC.

“If you look at our commitment to the fight against corruption, we have seen radical changes in the business base, underlying our port operations which generates the highest revenue for our domestic revenue mobilization. Removing human interphase by the introduction of the paperless port system, which is helping to prevent corruption. DVLA, passport and ECG offices have been augmented to reduce the stress and corruption we are witnessing as a country. So the fight against corruption is not an event, is a process” he added
