Dr. Albert Eshun, Director in-charge of Covid-19 Response Unit in Asamankese Government Hospital of the Eastern region has urged Ghanaians not to be afraid or show any sign of fear amidst the country’s surge in Coronavirus infection.
According to him, Ghanaians should instead be responsible and adhere to all the COVID-19 protocols announced by Ghana Health Service which are all aimed at curbing the spread of the virus which has killed several thousands of people all over the world.
Speaking to Ohene Addo, the host of ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ Plan-B FM’s flagship morning programme, Dr. Eshun noted that instead of entertaining fears about a surge in the virus infection, Ghanaians should rather be responsible by observing all the protocols; which according to him would see a drastic reduction in the number of infections being recorded by the Ghana Health Service.
Answering a question on whether lockdown has the tendencies to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Dr. Albert Eshun, noted that the Ghana Health Service could reduce the spread of the virus if the government go ahead to impose a lockdown.
He continued that if government impose a lockdown, human to human contact will also reduce, and it will be easy for the health workers in contact tracing and also control the virus spread.
He noted that he is worried by the increasing cases reported daily and called on Ghanaians to be responsible in their daily lives adding the country will see a lower number of infections compare to what the country is currently witnessing.
“People are taking the safety protocols for granted without thinking of the dangers they may be exposing others to by not wearing masks or even adhering the COVID-19 protocols, so I think let’s restrict movements. We are told when we move, the virus spreads,” he said.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA), in a recent press statement, urged government to impose restrictions on social gatherings to contain the spread of the virus.
The country is said to be recording daily cases of about 600 and have a total 3,813 active cases as of Wednesday, January 27, 2021. It has 62,751 confirmed cases, 377 deaths and 58,561 recoveries/discharges.
Dr. Albert Eshun in conclusion urged Ghanaians to comply more seriously with the measures adopted to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus in the country.
