COPEC Disagrees With President Akuffo Addo’s Statement On Taxes On Petroleum Product

COPEC Disagrees With President Akuffo Addo’s Statement On Taxes On Petroleum Product
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo has said it will not be prudent for government to remove taxes on petroleum products.

Since the start of this year, prices of petroleum products selling at the pumps have increased significantly with consumers and the general population affected by the increment, amid high cost of living.

Reacting to calls for the removal of some petroleum taxes, President Akufo-Addo speaking at this year’s May Day Celebrations argued that the removal of taxes on petroleum, will rather result in government missing out on some GH¢4 billion cedis in revenue.
“At this time, when we are determined to expand Government revenues in order to increase our capacity to finance our own development, can we afford to reduce tax revenues by four billion cedis?” he asked.

Mr Sampson Addae Head Of Research and Pricing Chamber of Petroleum Consumers speaking on PlanB Fm’s Ebanoosen hosted by Bohyeba Afriyie stated that they don’t Agree with the president and he listed three Reasons why he thinks it’s possible to lift some levies of petroleum products.

He said that some levies must be scrapped off because it was introduced to solve some crisis and they think it’s time for the Government to scrap of such levies.

He also said that some levies must be reduced and the country will still make profit on petroleum product.

He concluded that the Government is more concerned about how much they make not how To lift some burdens of the shoulders of Ghanaians.
