COP Kwesi Boakye Quizzes Celebrities Over Their Sense Of Entitlement.

COP Kwesi Boakye Quizzes Celebrities Over Their Sense Of Entitlement.

Ealier this week, the Director-General in Charge of Legal and Prosecution, COP Kwesi Boakye, together with the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and some senior police officers at the Police Headquarters held a meeting with members of the creative arts industry to discuss certain issues evolving around security, copyright, taxes and contributions, indiscipline and misconducts, etc.

This followed some actions of some of these Ghanaians celebrities like Shatta Wale, Medikal, among others, which landed them in the full grips of the laws of the state. Some personnel who were present at the meeting include, Shatta Wale, Samini, Stonebwoy, Mercy Asiedu, Efia Schwarzenegger, Rex Omar, Zionfelix, Agya Koo, A Plus, Bulldog and other entertainment gurus.

During the meeting, COP Kwesi Boakye questioned their statuses as celebrities which allow some of them to act as though they were above the laws of the country. Some of them spoke about deserving some special treatments and being entitled to certain benefits because of their fame but the COP scolded this appeal and maintained that, their sense of entitlement is excessive.

“I want to say that the sense of entitlement of celebrities is becoming overwhelming and I just don’t get it. Some of the things that you do are disgusting, truth be told. If we cannot arrest pickpockets, we cannot arrest armed robbers. No one is above the law. When you fault it and the law has to deal with you, we will, so that it will deter others”, he said.

He expressed his displeasure at how some of these media players act lawlessly due to their fame and it is not a good example to their followers and the citizenry at large. The police however agreed to provide security to these celebrities at events when need be.

ACP Kwesi Fori also entreated them to contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of the country. When the issue about copyright was raised, the police promised to assist them in this regard so that their crafts will be duly protected.

He also spoke about the misconduct of some of the media personalities and admonished them to live uprightly so as to steer the youth in the right direction since they mentor some of the citizens. We agreed to disagree but at the end of it all, we came out with salient points and facts that were going to deal with,” he stated.
