COP Donkor reveals details of her engagement with Apple Inc. officials

The Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department(CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Lydia Donkor, has disclosed that she received a delegation from Apple Inc. to discuss ways of combating counterfeit Apple products in the country.

She indicated that the officials, led by Collin Denyer, participated in an operational meeting focused on trademark and brand protection, as well as strategies to fight counterfeit Apple products in Ghana.

The initiative aims to protect consumers, enforce intellectual property laws, and disrupt criminal activity to safeguard the public and prevent fraud.

In a post shared on Facebook, COP Lydia Donkor noted that Apple Inc. and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police will collaborate by sharing intelligence to target individuals responsible for producing and distributing counterfeit Apple products in the country.

“I received a delegation from Apple Inc., led by Collin Denyer, in an operational engagement focused on trademark and brand protection and the fight against counterfeit Apple products in Ghana. The engagement highlighted the growing threat of fake devices and accessories that are often used to deceive the public and, in some cases, cause harm to users.

“This collaboration between Apple and the Criminal Investigations Department strengthens intelligence sharing, supports technical verification of products, and enhances our ability to identify and dismantle networks involved in counterfeit trade,” she wrote on Facebook.

She further added: “The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is actively pursuing leads on major investigations involving the use of fraudulent trademarks and the distribution of counterfeit products used to deceive and defraud the good citizens of Ghana. These activities undermine legitimate businesses, expose consumers to risk, and fuel organised criminal networks.”
