Dansoman Circuit Court is set to hear the case of a 36-year-old consultant, Thomas Yadoba, on February 5, 2025, after he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing on January 20.
Yadoba is accused of defrauding Bertha Fosua, a psychologist assistant, of GH¢60,000.00 under false pretenses.
According to court documents, Yadoba is charged with “Defrauding by False Pretense,” contrary to Section 131(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
It is alleged that in 2024, Yadoba approached Fosua, who had secured admission to a university in the United Kingdom, and falsely claimed he could facilitate a scholarship for her through the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
Yadoba allegedly demanded and collected GH¢60,000.00, promising to secure the scholarship within a month.However, after receiving the money, he reportedly went into hiding. Fosua reported the incident to the police on November 12, 2024, leading to Yadoba’s arrest at his hideout.
During police interrogation, Yadoba admitted to the offense and promised to refund the money but failed to do so. He was subsequently charged and brought before the court.
Yadoba’s failure to appear at his January 20 court date has delayed proceedings, with the case now adjourned to February 5, 2025.
If found guiltyYadoba could face severe penalties under Ghana’s criminal laws.
The Dansoman Circuit Court is expected to consider evidence presented by the prosecution and determine Yadoba’s culpability.
