Consent or not, defilement is a crime! – CHRAJ

Consent or not, defilement is a crime! – CHRAJ
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice has warned the public that defilement is a punishable offense, even if the victim agrees.

In an interview, John Ato Breboh, Deputy Chief Investigator at the Tema Sub-Regional Office, told Nana Asabea on Plan FM’s Nyansapɔ Fie show that consent is immaterial, and people should refrain from it. He cited a case where an Immigration Service Officer defiled his own daughter and later felt guilty.

This is a serious crime with severe legal consequences, and it’s crucial to remember that minors cannot legally give consent.

‘Let’s all stay informed and help prevent such crimes from happening,’ he added. He also mentioned other unlawful acts, including non-consensual sexual practices, emphasizing the importance of awareness and prevention.

To prevent such acts from happening, he stressed that education and awareness play a significant role in child protection programs by empowering children and families to recognize and prevent child abuse and neglect.

Additionally, he advised against indecent dressing and other harmful behaviours.
