The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association Henry Asante Twum has reassured Ghanaians that the GFA will offer the necessary support to ensure Otto Addo and his two assistants are in the right state of mind for Ghana’s upcoming match against Angola on Thursday in the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.
This assurance follows the trio’s involvement in a serious accident, from which they fortunately survived.
The accident happened on the Tarkwa-Takoradi road while they were travelling to Accra after attending a match between Ghana Premier League champions FC Samartex and FA Cup holders Nsoatreman on Saturday, August 31, 2024.
Images circulating on social media showed the vehicle’s extensive damage, with goalkeepers’ trainer Fatau Dauda spotted walking past the wreckage.
Initial commentary, possibly from Paintsil, suggested that the coaches were unharmed, though a full evaluation of any potential injuries will be conducted later.
The trio had been at the renovated TNA Sports Stadium for the game and were on their way to Accra to begin preparations for Ghana’s opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Henry Asante Twum shared the positive news that psychological support will be provided to Otto Addo, John Paintsil, and Fatau Dauda to ensure they are ready for the important match against the Sable Antelopes on Thursday.
Yes, they will. All of them have assured us that despite this misfortune, they will be very much ready and prepared to lead the team to success on Thursday.
It’s very unfortunate, but we are in a critical moment.
We want to start the qualifiers on a good slate, and so we leave no stone on them.
We are working on them psychologically, physically, to be able to get them prepared for the tough game.
