Concerned Youth Of Sege Warn Naana Adikie Adi to Desist from Smear Campaign Against MP

Concerned Youth Of Sege Warn Naana Adikie Adi to Desist from Smear Campaign Against MP
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Concerned Youth of the Sege Constituency have issued a sharp rebuttal to recent media reports alleging that their Member of Parliament, Hon. Daniel Keshie Bessey, is fueling agitation against Electrochem Ghana Limited, operators of the Ada Songor Salt Project.

In a strongly-worded statement, the youth described the publications as “distasteful, disrespectful, and insulting” to the people of Ada, insisting that the reports were a diversionary tactic aimed at covering up what they called the “atrocities, cheating, and exploitation” being perpetrated by Electrochem since assuming control of the Songor Lagoon.

According to the group, instead of addressing the long-standing grievances of residents regarding access to the lagoon, job opportunities, and equitable participation in the salt venture, the company and its associates had resorted to “cowardly attacks” on the integrity of the Sege MP.

“Why should a company that has brought so much pain and anger upon the people through its own bad actions now turn around to blame our MP, who has only good intentions for his constituents?” the group queried.

Accusations Against Naana Adikie Adi

The youth further accused Naana Adikie Adi, a close associate of McDan Group Chairman, Daniel McKorley, of being at the center of what they described as a coordinated smear campaign against Hon. Bessey. They alleged that Naana, who served on the Asafotufiam Planning Committee, personally supervised the removal of the MP’s name from the official brochure of invited dignitaries, a move they considered not only petty but a deliberate act of disrespect to the Sege Constituency.

They warned that her alleged role in fueling attacks on the MP would not be tolerated.

“If Naana Adikie Adi truly cares about peace in Ada, she should advise her lover to live peacefully with the people rather than masterminding media attacks on our MP. Otherwise, she must simply shut up. We will not sit idle while she insults our intelligence and attempts to destroy the reputation of our representative. If she tries us, she will face the full wrath of the youth,” the statement cautioned.

The group emphasized that any further attempt to smear Hon. Bessey would be fiercely resisted, stressing that they were prepared to “go all out” to defend their legislator from what they view as a disgraceful campaign of vilification.

Songor Lagoon Dispute

The Ada Songor salt concession has long been a hotbed of disputes involving traditional authorities, community members, and successive investors. In 2020, Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the McDan Group, took over operations with promises to transform the industry into a globally competitive venture, create jobs, and boost infrastructure.

However, sections of the Ada community continue to accuse the company of marginalizing indigenous interests, restricting access to the lagoon, and ignoring local voices. This has led to persistent protests and clashes, which the youth argue are rooted in “genuine frustrations” and not the handiwork of their MP.

The Concerned Youth of Sege concluded their statement by reaffirming their support for Hon. Bessey, insisting that he remains committed to the welfare of his people and cannot be intimidated by “paid agents of propaganda.”
