On what began as an ordinary day for some commuters in Accra, confusion and frustration took over the usually busy Shiashie bus stop near East Legon after an alleged evacuation of the transport station reportedly ordered by an Airport Police Commander.
This order has led the station’s drivers to embark on an indefinite strike until authorities address their concerns.

The incident has left dozens of passengers stranded, disrupting their daily routines.
Shiashi bus stop, located along the bustling Legon–Madina highway, is one of the busiest transport points in the capital.
Some passengers were forced to walk long distances in search of alternative transport, while others waited anxiously by the roadside, hoping that vehicles would return.
Speaking exclusively with The Ghana Report, Salisu Wakilu, the Vim PROTOA (Progress Transport Association) Vice Chairman, disclosed that their strike is a result of the evacuation of the station by the new Airport Commander.
According to him, a directive was issued to them last week prohibiting them from loading passengers at the Shiashie Bus Stop, although the new station, which was designated for them, has not been fully furnished for any activity to proceed.

Speaking to The Ghana Report again, Shaibu Kamal, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Trustee, Shiashie, expressed concern about the unfair treatment of drivers despite their efforts to make commuting easier for passengers.
Some stranded commuters also shared their plight with The Ghan Report in an interview.
“I got here around 6:30 in the morning, expecting to board a trotro to School Junction.
“But when I arrived, the drivers said they had been asked to leave the station, so they are on strike today, and until they are granted permission to work at Shiashi, they won’t call off the strike,” said one commuter whose office is situated at School Junction, East Legon.
