Transport fares will remain unchanged for now, bringing temporary relief to commuters. According to Mr. Samuel Amoah, spokesperson for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), operators are deliberately holding off on fare adjustments despite mounting economic pressures.
Speaking on Plan B FM’s socio-political programme Ebaanosen, Amoah revealed that the decision is strategic. “They are waiting for some time to increase transport fares,” he explained, noting that operators intend to delay any increment until the end of next month. He also hinted that five upcoming “windows” will guide their decision, though he did not elaborate on what those signify.
This stance suggests that transport operators are closely monitoring developments in fuel pricing and broader economic indicators before making a move. For the traveling public, it means fares will stay stable, at least until the close of October.
