NDC Communicator Hails Mahama’s 15% Transport Fare Cut; Demands Further Relief

NDC Communicator Hails Mahama’s 15% Transport Fare Cut; Demands Further Relief

Ike Lord, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team for the Ashaiman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has commended the Mahama-led administration for implementing a 15% reduction in transport fares. However, he has also called for additional measures to provide relief to citizens.

Speaking on Plan B FM’s Nkɔsoɔnsɛm show hosted by Obidehyeɛ Kofi Sekyi, Ike Lord described the fare reduction as unprecedented, especially considering it occurred within the first four months of the government’s term. He urged traders to follow suit by reducing prices of goods and services to further ease the burden on citizens.

“Given that some oil marketing companies are selling fuel at prices as low as GH₵12.37, while others sell at GH₵13.00 per litre, any reduction should be reflected in the lives of the people,” Ike Lord stated.

“Driver’s mates should not argue with passengers over this; they should simply reduce their transport fares.”

He added, “When fuel prices increase, no one instructs them to raise transport fares; the same principle should apply to reductions.”

Ike Lord also appealed to traders to lower their prices in tandem with the transport fare reduction.

“Traders should avoid buying goods at low prices and selling them at exorbitant rates, which would amount to greed,” he cautioned, using the example of a bag of cassava costing GH₵200 at the farm gate being sold at inflated prices.
