The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has firmly denied claims circulating that it has donated $12 million to sponsor the Black Stars, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a public notice issued by the Board, COCOBOD stated that assertions suggesting it had diverted funds meant for cocoa farmers to support the national football team are “without any factual basis.”
The Board emphasised that it remains fully committed to its core mandate of prioritising the welfare of cocoa farmers. According to the statement, this includes prompt payment for cocoa purchases, provision of inputs, extension services, and sustained investment in the cocoa sector.
“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the notice stressed.
The clarification follows public discussions and social media commentary alleging that the cocoa regulator had financially backed the senior national team at a time when farmers have raised concerns about payment delays and sector challenges.
COCOBOD urged the public to disregard the claims and rely only on its official communication channels for accurate and verified information.
