CID arrests man after viral video shows him giving cigarette to a Child
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral video administering what is believed to be a cigarette to a young child, an act widely condemned by the public.

According to a police statement dated 22nd November 2025, the suspect, identified as Samuel Obeng Acheampong, was picked up in an intelligence-led operation. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to the offence and disclosed that the incident took place about five years ago.

Police say Acheampong is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, after which he will be arraigned before the court to face charges related to child endangerment and exposing a minor to harmful substances.

The statement, signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo of the CID’s Public Relations Unit, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to protecting children from abuse and harmful practices. The Police cautioned the public to refrain from actions that jeopardize the safety and wellbeing of minors, warning that anyone caught engaging in such acts will face the full force of the law.
