Chronic kidney disease is irreversible but manageable – Public advised

Chronic kidney disease is irreversible but manageable – Public advised

Dr. Michael Appiah of Ishmael Ashitey Medical Centre has said that chronic kidney disease is irreversible but can be managed and it includes conditions that damage your kidneys and decrease their ability to keep you healthy by filtering wastes from your blood.

Speaking on APOMUDEN FIE a weekly health show hosted by Ohene Addo on Plan B FM, Dr Appiah said, If kidney disease worsens, wastes can build to high levels in your blood and make you feel sick.

“You may develop complications like, high blood pressure occurs when your blood pressure against the walls of your blood vessels increases. If uncontrolled or poorly controlled, high blood pressure can be a leading cause of heart attacks, strokes, and chronic kidney disease. Also, chronic kidney disease can cause high blood pressure.

Diabetes and high blood pressure, or hypertension, are responsible for two-thirds of chronic kidney disease cases, diabetes occurs when your blood sugar remains too high. Over time, unmanaged blood sugar can cause damage to many organs in your body, including the kidneys and heart and vessels, nerves, and eyes.

Dr. Appiah stressed that excessive intake of alcohol, red meat, salty foods, and bad eating habits are also prime factors that could lead to kidney problems.

He then advised regular check-ups of the blood pressure, abstinence from excessive alcohol intake, adopting good eating habits, and exercise are the best ways to prevent kidney problems.
