A planned engagement between the Parliamentary Affairs Committee and traditional leaders at the Kasoa Odupong Ofaakor Palace in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region has been called off following tensions linked to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute.
The Committee visited the palace to invite traditional leaders to participate in a youth engagement programme scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2026.

However, the delegation’s visit was disrupted after it encountered two rival factions gathered at different locations in preparation for the programme.
One faction, led by Nai Kwabena Atopi, described as the Royal Custodian of the stool, had assembled at the palace, while another faction, led by Nai Joe, had gathered at the hall of the late chief’s house.

The competing arrangements created uncertainty over the appropriate venue for the engagement and heightened tensions in the area.
Security personnel subsequently escorted the delegation away from the palace to prevent a possible confrontation.
Following the development, the committee called off its planned activities for the day.
The delegation comprised members of the Parliamentary Affairs Committee, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the Municipal Chief Executive and other dignitaries.

Speaking to the media after the incident, the Omankrado of Kasoa Odupong Ofaakor, Nana Darko Ankrah, expressed disappointment over the confusion.
He maintained that the palace was the appropriate place for engagements involving traditional leaders, rather than a hall or private residence.

Nana Darko Ankrah also appealed to the rival factions to embrace peace and find an amicable solution to the chieftaincy dispute in the interest of the community.
Some members of the Asafo Group also condemned the development, expressing concern about the conduct of some traditional leaders.

They called for responsible leadership and a peaceful resolution of the dispute to restore unity and stability in the community.
