A confrontation between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned violent in Salaga, East Gonja Municipality, Savannah Region, on Thursday, resulting in four injuries.

The incident occurred when rival party supporters gathered to receive construction machines commissioned as part of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). Chaos erupted at 5 pm, three hours before the machines’ arrival, after an alleged assault on the NPP Constituency Organizer near the East Gonja Municipality Police Headquarters.

The situation escalated into violence, with supporters of both parties clashing. Three victims sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged, while a fourth victim, attacked with a cutlass, remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Police intervened with teargas, restoring order after a two-hour standoff.

Calm has returned to Salaga, with the East Gonja Municipal Security Council meeting to prevent future incidents and ensure peaceful political activities
