Tension flared at the headquarters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra on Thursday when the party’s National Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu also known as Alhaji Buga Buga allegedly slapped a party communicator, popularly known as Okyeman, during a heated argument in the presence of senior party executives.
Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred during an internal meeting at the party’s headquarters, where discussions over the party’s communication strategy and messaging took a dramatic turn. What began as a verbal exchange quickly degenerated into a physical confrontation, leaving many in shock.
Sources within the NPP revealed that efforts by other executives to de-escalate the situation proved difficult at first, though calm was eventually restored after several minutes of chaos.
The exact cause of the altercation remains uncertain, but insiders have described the clash as “regrettable and avoidable,” warning that such incidents risk undermining party unity at a critical time.
The reported assault has since ignited intense debate on social media and within party circles, with some members urging the leadership to act swiftly to maintain discipline and cohesion ahead of the 2028 general elections.
As of press time, the party’s leadership had not released an official statement addressing the alleged confrontation or whether disciplinary measures would be taken.
Political observers say the development reflects deep-seated tensions within the NPP as it undergoes post-election restructuring and seeks to strengthen its internal communication machinery for upcoming political contests.
