The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed Ghana Football Association (GFA) Presidential aspirant, George Afriyie’s appeal against the GFA’s decision to disqualify him from contesting the 2023 GFA Elections.

The ruling was served on Monday, May 6 almost eight months after the former GFA Vice President officially filed the appeal following his disqualification.

Geore Afriyie has been directed to pay legal fees summing up to 1000 Swiss Francs (15,266 Ghana Cedis) in connection to the ruling.

After filing his nomination to run for the GFA Presidential seat, George Afriyie was disqualified from running for the office due to his failure to provide the required number of GFA members to his candidature.

His disqualification was upheld by the Elections Appeals Committee forcing Afriyie to explore other legal options leading to Afriyie filing his appeal at CAS.

Last year’s elections were held in Tamale on October 5 with incumbent GFA President Kurt Okraku retaining the seat.

Okraku won 117 of 120 votes to retain his position atop Ghana’s football hierarchy; two delegates voted against Kurt Okraku with one delegate abstaining from the vote.
